Meals For Chronic Kidney Disease
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition in which your kidneys have become damaged over time and no longer function as they did to filter the blood effectively. There is no cure for CKD but if detected early enough, with diet, exercise, and medication, it can be prevented from getting worse.
For those with CKD, it is a challenge to be in compliance with a renal dietician’s recommendation. It’s a highly restrictive diet where potassium, phosphorus, sodium, and fluid have to be monitored.
Too much potassium in a diet can lead to hyperkalemia. High phosphorus levels can cause damage to your body by pulling calcium out of your bones. Too much sodium can raise blood pressure and increase fluid retention.
In developing a solution for increased dietary adherence, the KidneyLuv Team, which consists of Nephrologist, Dr. Sourabh Kharait and Renal Dietician, Elizabeth Custer, created prepackaged renal meal plans for CKD Stages 1-5 that are delivered to your home.
